Mr. Jayantilal B. Patel, President, National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Ltd. and Chairman of Sahakari Khand Udyog Mandal Ltd., Gandevi, Gujarat has been with the sugar industry since the last 25 years. A post-graduate in Commerce from the renowned Maharaja Sayajirao University in Baroda, Mr. Jayantilal B. Patel was born on October 9, 1943 and has the unique distinction of combining diverse professions viz. an educationist, a social activist, a farmers’ leader and a promoter of sugar industry. As an educationist, Mr. Patel has served in a South Gujarat College, University Teachers Association, Board of studies in Commerce of South Gujarat University and for 34 years as Head of Commerce Department and Vice-Principal of S.B. Garda Arts & P K Patel Commerce College in Navsari, Gujarat. As a Social Activist, he was Sarpanch of Adada Gram Panchayat from 1974 to 1984, Member of Taluka Panchayat in Navsari, Gujarat from 1979-1984 and a Trust Member of Leuva Patidar Samaj Trust, Navsari, Gujarat. As a farmers’ leader, Mr. Jayantilal B. Patel founded the Adada Gram Seva Sahakari Mandli Ltd. in Navsari, Gujarat, Vice-Chairman of Navsari, Farmers Cooperative Society Ltd. which has 4000 members mainly involved in paddy cultivation, rice mills, poha, fertilizers and running consumer stores. He has also been the guiding force behind the success of Sahakari Khand Udyog Mandal Ltd., Gandevi – a sugar factory of 5000 TCD, of which he was a Director from 1984 and Chairman from 1989 onwards.
Mr. Jayantilal B. Patel is also a Director of the Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai, Western Zone, Director of Gujarat Rajya Sahakari Khand Udyog Sangh Ltd. and Chairman of Indian Sugar Exim Corporation Ltd., New Delhi. Mr. Jayantilal is also the Vice-President of World Association of Beet & Cane Growers, France.
